About Us
We
are Glen and Susan Cook, owners of Blue Ribbon Accoyo Alpacas.
Our love for alpacas began in the summer of 1999 when we visited
friends who own them. The animals so appealed to us and our
three-year-old daughter Savannah that we began extensive research
into their care and the investment opportunities
they offer. That led to a decision to buy alpacas for ourselves.
Our first purchase was two suri alpacas, named Cee Cee and
Dreamaye. Since that time, our focus has shifted from suris
to full Accoyo alpacas. We now have more than 30 alpacas,
three full Accoyo proven herdsires and four full Accoyo junior
herdsires. All of our alpacas are, and new ones will be, registered
with ARI, The Alpaca Registry.
Our
family enjoys many outings with the alpacas, including visits
to schools, other alpaca farms, fairs, and community functions;
especially, the many alpaca shows we try to participate in
throughout the year despite busy schedules. One of the main
attractions that drew us to the alpaca business is that it
is something that the entire family can share.
Initially, we had to agist (board) our alpacas. Zoning restrictions
prevented us from keeping them or any other livestock on our
lot. After about one and a half years of looking for the perfect
farm, we finally found it! In the rural outskirts of Gaithersburg,
Maryland, sits our charming New England-style farmhousea
perfect setting for raising children and alpacas. It's also
not too far from our old house, permitting our routine of
schools, family, friends, and shopping to remain the same.
We settled in our new home and farm in July of 2001.
Blue Ribbon Accoyo Alpacas' business plan includes
breeding top quality full Accoyo alpacas for sale and offering
our exceptional full Accoyo herdsires for outside breeding.
Our
sales list has some of the most sought after alpacas available.
One of our goals is to breed and sell the highest quality
alpacas available anywhere.
We have a wide selection of award-winning full Accoyo herdsires.
Our proven Accoyo sires include MFI Accoyo Peruvian Avalanche,
light fawn PHA Accoyo Ambassador, and Accoyo Bravado. We have
plans to add more herdsires and have high hopes for some of
our full Accoyo youngsters who are showing incredible potential.
